VNVC and Rieckermann to build green vaccine factory in Vietnam

VOV.VN - The Vietnam Vaccine Joint Stock Company (VNVC) has officially signed a contract with the Rieckermann Group (Germany), a leading global designer in the field of vaccine and pharmaceutical manufacturing plants, to build the VNVC Vaccine and Biopharmaceutical Factory.

The factory will have a total investment of nearly VND2 trillion and will be built according to the world's leading modern technology with the ultimate aim to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions.

At the signing ceremony held in Ho Chi Minh City on January 15, Jorge Domingo Guerra, engineering operations sales and BD director of Rieckermann, shared that the factory, which covers a total area spanning 26,000 m2, will be a modern complex including vaccine and biological manufacturing areas, animal breeding and research building, and other utility areas, all of which will meet high international standards.

In particular, he noted, that the entire factory will be designed to LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) standards - a green building certification programme developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) which provides a framework for identifying and implementing practical and measurable green building design, construction, operations, and maintenance solutions.

The project not only demonstrates the remarkable progress in promoting Vietnamese biopharmaceutical infrastructure, but also represents a step forward in addressing global health challenges., said the director.

Once completed, this will be the first vaccine factory in Vietnam to meet the LEED standard, supporting the country’s goal of net-zero emissions by 2050. It marks a significant milestone in the sustainable development strategy for Vietnam’s vaccine industry, helping the country become self-sufficient in vaccines, ensure public health security, and enhance the global competitiveness of its pharmaceutical sector.

Last October VNVC and French pharmaceutical company Sanofi also signed a cooperation document to produce certain Sanofi vaccines at the VNVC factory in Vietnam.

Under the signed document, Sanofi will share extensive knowledge and expertise in biotechnology with VNVC to facilitate the gradual production of essential vaccines at the VNVC factory in Vietnam.
