Vietnamese students dominate 2026 AIMO Final with over 200 awards

Official results announced at the August 4 award ceremony at the National Convention Center show the host delegation secured 1 Champion, 4 First Prizes, 3 Second Prizes, 42 Gold, 83 Silver, and 70 Bronze medals, along with 2 Honorable Mentions.

Hosted in Hanoi for the first time, this year's AIMO International Finals drew nearly 1,300 contestants from 22 countries and territories, creating a global platform for academic exchange and cultural connection.

Vietnam sent one of the largest delegations to the event, with 205 award-winning students, representing 18 provinces and cities nationwide.

Among the top performers, Tran Son Ha, a 7th grader from Dang Thai Mai Secondary School in Nghe An province, claimed the Champion title. Luu Hai Dang, a 2nd grader from Hanoi - Thang Long Primary and Secondary School, finished as a First Runner-up with the highest score in his category, earning the International Star Trophy awarded to the top participant from each country or territory.

This year's performance marked a dramatic expansion in both delegation size and results compared to the 2025 event in Tokyo, Japan, where 22 Vietnamese students won 22 awards. Year-on-year, the number of awardees rose by 183, with Gold medals increasing by 32, Silver by 76, and Bronze by 66.

In Vietnam, the 2025-2026 AIMO season was organized by Tien Phong (Vanguard) Newspaper and Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) under the direction of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union.

The competition attracted more than 11,000 preliminary contestants nationwide, with nearly 300 outstanding students selected from the national finals to represent Vietnam on the international stage.
