Vietnamese rescue team recovers 54 bodies from earthquake rubble in Venezuela
VOV.VN - Vietnam’s rescue team in Venezuela recovered nine more bodies from earthquake rubble in Playa Grande, La Guaira state, on July 4 (local time), bringing the total number of victims found to 54.
The Vietnamese rescue team was divided into several units to continue recovery and rescue efforts in areas affected by the earthquake.
The team also assisted local residents in moving belongings and continued providing free medical check-ups and medicine to affected people.
Earlier, on the morning of July 3 (local time), the Vietnam People's Army, working with Venezuelan rescue forces, detected what was believed to be signs of life inside a collapsed building in Playa Grande using specialized equipment. Both sides immediately launched a round-the-clock operation to search the site.
The operation drew close attention from local officials and residents. Visiting the site on the night of July 3, Nayade Lockiby Belmonte, commander of Venezuela’s militia forces, thanked Vietnam for deploying rescue personnel to support earthquake relief efforts in Venezuela.
Belmonte praised the close coordination between the Vietnam People's Army and Venezuelan forces in efforts to locate victims, affirming that Venezuela will continue providing full support to the Vietnamese team during its mission.
After more than 10 hours of continuous efforts, the Vietnamese team reached the suspected location in the early hours of July 4 (local time). Rescue personnel carefully inspected every corner of the area but found no signs of survivors.
Although no survivors were found, the Vietnamese team’s efforts demonstrated dedication, compassion and solidarity with the Venezuelan people during a time of hardship.
