Vietnamese professor awarded France’s Legion of Honor

Professor Chau Van Minh, the first Vietnamese working in natural sciences and technology, has been awarded the highest French order of merit, the Legion of Honor.

French Ambassador to Vietnam Nicolas Warnery, on behalf of the French State, on April 2 awarded the Legion of Honor Order to Professor Chau Van Minh, President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.

Prof. Chau Van Minh has supported and promoted the cooperation and transfer of a number of key technologies of the 21st century between French research units and the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.

He has also actively negotiated and developed a roadmap of cooperation for two projects supported by the French government, including the first Vietnam Earth Observation Satellite (VNRED-Sat1) and Hanoi University of Science and Technology (or Vietnam - France University).

"This is not only a great honor and a noble reward for me, but also a recognition to the contributions made by the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology in promoting sustainable cooperation activities with research and higher education institutions in France, and strengthening the strategic Vietnam-France relationship," said the professor.

Previously, France’s Legion of Honor Order was awarded for former Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien, Ms. Ton Nu Thi Ninh, Professor Ngo Bao Chau, among others.
