Vietnamese fined for smoking during HCM City- Hanoi flight

A man from Hanoi has been fined VND4 million (US$180) for smoking in the toilet during a domestic flight.

The passenger was caught smoking on a Vietjet plane from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi.
According to a government decree, in-flight smoking is subject to a fine of up to VND5 million.
Despite instructions and warning signs, many Vietnamese passengers have kept breaking the rule, especially on journeys lasting two hours, such as flights between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
A local man last May received the same fine for smoking during a Vietnam Airlines flight on the same route.
