Vietnam to commemorate COVID-19 victims nationwide

VOV.VN - The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs in collaboration with the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Ho Chi Minh City and other localities will hold a ceremony to commemorate the victims of the COVID-19 pandemic in Vietnam.

National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue made the announcement at the ongoing National Assembly session in Hanoi on November 11.

The ceremony will be held in an online format and connected to cities and provinces, said Hue, adding that the idea has received support from senior Party and State leaders.

So far more than 22,500 people, including officials and soldiers, have died of COVID-19 and related diseases in Vietnam, with most of the cases recorded in Ho Chi Minh City and other southern localities.

This is a great loss to Vietnam, said Nguyen Anh Tri, former director of the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, who suggested having a national mourning for those who had lost their lives during the COVID-19 fight.
