Vietnam records the 58th COVID-19 related death

VOV.VN - A COVID-19 patient has died in Hanoi capital, raising the total number of disease-related death to 58, the Ministry of Health on June 12.

The 64-year-old patient suffered from lung cancer which was discovered in October 2020. She had undergone surgery to remove the left lung and had since received chemotherapy five times.

She tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus on May 14 during her fifth chemotherapy at the K Cancer hospital in Hanoi.

The patient was given intensive treatment, but her health gradually worsened. She was on a ventilator on May 25 and had since relied on mechanical ventilation alongside broad-spectrum antibiotics and antifungal drugs.

However, she did not respond well to the therapy and died on June 11. She was then diagnosed with septic shock, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, and lung cancer.

This is the 23rd COVID-19 death in Vietnam during the latest coronavirus outbreak and the 58th since the emergence of the virus in January 2020.
