Vietnam ready for 2026 high school graduation examination in June
VOV.VN - Preparations have been largely complete for the 2026 national high school graduation examination, with more than 1.2 million candidates expected to sit the nationwide exam slated for June 11-12.
The information was announced during a nationwide online conference on June 2 chaired by Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son.
The ministry said approximately 2,500 examination sites and around 50,000 examination rooms have been prepared nationwide. Training programmes for invigilators and examination staff were completed early at both central and local levels.
Inspection teams from the ministry have also been deployed to multiple provinces and cities, with officials reporting that preparations are generally progressing on schedule and in line with regulations.
Regarding examination papers, the Quality Management Department said 34 provincial and municipal Departments of Education and Training had received examination materials through the secure system operated by the Government Cipher Committee.
The system had been sealed under strict security procedures to ensure the safe printing and distribution of exam papers before the examination period.
However, the Ministry of Education and Training warned that potential risks could still arise during the exam period, including extreme weather, storms, flooding, overcrowding at some examination sites due to the large number of candidates, and risks related to high-tech cheating.
Localities have therefore been instructed to continue reviewing all procedures carefully and prepare contingency plans for all possible scenarios.
Representatives from several provinces and cities said preparations have been basically complete. Some localities, including An Giang and Ho Chi Minh City, have developed transportation plans to deliver examination materials to island and remote areas such as Phu Quoc and Con Dao islands by both air and sea, depending on weather conditions.
In Lam Dong province, inspection teams have reviewed all examination sites as well as printing and grading facilities to minimise the risk of procedural errors.
Representatives from the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Public Security and the Government Cipher Committee also presented coordination plans to ensure safety, security, healthcare services and confidentiality throughout the examination process.
Concluding the conference, Education Minister Hoang Minh Son praised ministries, sectors and local authorities for their proactive preparations.
He emphasised that the final review stage is particularly important and proposed that authorities continue carefully checking all aspects of the examination process, including facilities, technical infrastructure and staff training.
The minister also urged localities to prepare response plans for emergencies such as natural disasters, disease outbreaks, transportation disruptions, food safety incidents and unexpected situations at examination sites.
He stressed that the legitimate rights of candidates must be protected under all circumstances, while fairness and consistency in examination administration must be maintained.
Under the current format, candidates will sit four subjects, including Mathematics and Literature as compulsory subjects, along with one elective examination combining two subjects selected from groups such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Geography, Economic and Legal Education, Foreign Languages, Informatics or Technology.
Compared with previous years, the examination structure remains largely unchanged, continuing to focus on competency-based assessment and the practical application of knowledge rather than rote memorisation, while offering students broader subject choices under Vietnam’s updated education curriculum.
