Vietnam expects further healthcare cooperation with Japan, RoK

VOV.VN - Acting Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan expressed her desire to further strengthen healthcare ties between Vietnam and its partners Japan and the Republic of Korea (RoK) during her separate meetings with diplomats of the two countries in Hanoi on August 16.

At a meeting with RoK Ambassador Park Noh-wan, Acting Minister Lan thanked the RoK for supporting Vietnam in combating the COVID-19 pandemic and contributing to improving the overall capacity of the grassroots-level health system over recent times.

She assured that the Ministry of Health welcomes and supports RoK-invested healthcare projects in Vietnamese localities as they greatly contribute to strengthening infrastructure and improving the overall efficiency and capacity of the grassroots-level health system.

“We are glad that many Korean enterprises are willing to co-operate with Vietnam to develop some high-quality medical facilities, and the Ministry of Health will assign relevant organisations to coordinate and exchange specific information with the RoK partners regarding these projects,” said the Acting Minister.

She outlined her expectations that the RoK would strive to increase its investment in the fields of pharmacy, medical equipment manufacturing, construction of medical facilities, as well as sharing experience and providing technical support to Vietnam in hospital management, IT application, health insurance, traditional medicine, and cancer treatment.

Ambassador Park informed the Acting Minister about several RoK-invested projects, including those to build the national Center for Disease Prevention and Control, a hospital in a locality, and to provide medical equipment, along with resolving medical equipment procurement issues.

He therefore hoped the RoK would receive support from the Ministry of Health and relevant agencies in undertaking these projects so as to offer high-quality medical services to not only Vietnamese people, but also the approximately 200,000 Korean expatriates residing in Vietnam.

He invited the Vietnamese Acting Minister to participate in the 2022 Global Health Security Conference which will be held in Seoul this November and the 2022 World Biotechnology Industry Conference scheduled to take place in Seoul this October.

At another meeting held alongside Japanese Ambassador Yamada Takio and officials of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Acting Minister Lan thanked the Government and people of Japan for providing medical assistance to Vietnamese COVID-19 fight.

She expressed her hope that Japan would continue to accompany and support the local health sector in delivering vaccines and medical equipment, as well as developing specific projects in the field of preventive medicine.

She suggested that both sides strive to increase exchanges to share experience and technology transfer to Vietnam, especially in specialised fields which require great technical expertise.

The two sides exchanged views on the ongoing implementation of the Cho Ray 2 Hospital project, a Japanese-style nursing house project, as well as other projects on medical recovery capacity, medical security, distance medical training, and drug registration and circulation.
