Vietnam confirms 76 new COVID-19 cases over six hours

VOV.VN - Seventy-six people have tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus in four Vietnamese localities during the past six hours, the Ministry of Health (MoH) said in its 12.00am COVID-19 update on June 27.

Most of the cases were documented in quarantine or lockdown areas, said the MoH.

Ho Chi Minh City, the country’s second largest coronavirus hotspot, registered 65 cases of the total. More than half the cases tested positive after having close contact with COVID-19 patients, and 19 cases were linked to the outbreak at Tan Phu Trung industrial park.

The city has decided to establish two more field hospitals to receive and treat COVID-19 patients as the number of patients is expected to rise in the coming days.

In an effort to halt the spread of the virus, the city has also decided to suspend direct transactions at its Hoc Mon wholesale market where many positive cases have been documented.

Elsewhere, eight more cases were detected in Hung Yen, two in Bac Giang and one in Bac Kan.

The northern province of Hung Yen, a gateway to Hanoi capital, has uncovered 39 new cases during the past week. With six new cases diagnosed in Yen My district on June 27 morning, the provincial administration has decided to impose social distancing on the entire district.

Meanwhile, a social distancing order has also been imposed on Duc Pho town in Quang Ngai province, central Vietnam, after nine new cases were confirmed by the provincial Centre for Disease Control on July 27 morning.

The SARS-CoV-2 virus resurged in Vietnam in late April and has spread to 44 cities and provinces across the country.

As many as 12,071 COVID-19 patients have been confirmed, including 3,363 recoveries and 40 deaths.

Overall Vietnam has logged 15,401 cases since January 2020, including 6,137 recoveries and 75 deaths.
