Vietnam and India strengthen specialized cooperation in corneal transplantation and ophthalmic pathology

Under the memorandum of understanding, the two hospitals committed to comprehensive cooperation in high-quality workforce training, advanced technology transfer, professional exchange, and remote consultation for complex cases. By leveraging each side’s strengths in clinical expertise accumulated from tens of thousands of cases each year, as well as modern technology-driven treatment solutions, the partnership is expected to help narrow the gap between Vietnamese patients and advanced international standards in ophthalmic care.

The program focuses on key areas such as corneal transplantation and tissue bank development, aiming to optimize the quality of donor tissues and increase the chances of preserving vision for patients with severe corneal damage. In addition, the two hospitals will expand cooperation in myopia control, strabismus treatment, amblyopia management, and contact lenses, with the goal of updating modern intervention trends and improving the quality of vision care for different patient groups.

As a World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centre for the Prevention of Blindness, LV Prasad Eye Hospital in India is internationally recognized for its capacity in workforce training, research achievements, and the development of advanced ophthalmic techniques.

Meanwhile, Hong Ngoc General Hospital has continued to affirm its position in the treatment of complex corneal diseases, as demonstrated by its certification as the first unit in Vietnam to perform laser-assisted corneal transplantation using the Femto LDV Z8 system from Ziemer Group, Switzerland. Notably, Dr. Dinh Thi Hoang Anh, MD, PhD, Head of the hospital’s Ophthalmology Department, currently holds 10 patents in corneal and pupillary surgery recognized by the Ministry of Health and the Government of Russia, with worldwide validity.

The partnership between the two hospitals is expected to bring practical benefits to patients. In particular, the development of specialized diagnostic services such as ophthalmic pathology and ocular microbiology will enable physicians to identify the root cause of lesions at the tissue and cellular levels. This will support the development of comprehensive, personalized treatment protocols designed to enhance safety and reduce the risk of complications after corneal transplantation.
