US Navy brings joy, inspiration to kids in Danang

VOV.VN - The US Navy has livened up its seventh-annual Naval Engagement Activity (NEA) Vietnam with a cultural exchange at the Sky Line School in Danang featuring the US 7th Fleet Band's popular music group ‘Orient Express’.

NEA Vietnam has evolved from annual port visits to Danang by US Navy ships, which began more than a decade ago, to a multi-day bilateral naval engagement ashore and at sea.

This year the ‘Orient Express’ brings an exciting mix of music to NEA Vietnam ranging from classic rock to modern Top 40 hits by artists such as Stevie Wonder, Adele, The Rolling Stones and Bruno Mars.

Our coordination with the Vietnam People’s Navy (VPN) and Danang People’s Committee continues to be positive and productive, said Fleet Bandmaster, Lieutenant Brian S. Chaplow.

We’re looking forward to working and interacting with the VPN, the Sky Line School and the people in Danang, building on the success and lessons from last year’s NEA.

NEA Vietnam 2016 will focus on non-combatant events and will include many community service events including multiple performances by the US Navy’s 7th Fleet Rock Band ‘Orient Express’.

During the sea phase the two navies will practice communications through the Code for Unplanned Encounters at Sea (CUES) and conduct a search and rescue scenario.

US assets participating in 2016 include the guided-missile destroyer USS John S McCain (DDG 56), personnel from CTF 73, DESRON 7, and the US 7th Fleet Band ‘Orient Express’.

July 2016 marked the 21st anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between the US and Vietnam.

These activities are designed to foster mutual understanding, build confidence in the maritime domain and develop relationships between the people and navies of both nations.
