Typhoon Goni heads towards Quang Ngai and Khanh Hoa
VOV.VN - Currently located approximately 300 km southeast of the Hoang Sa archipelago, Typhoon Goni is heading towards Quang Ngai and Khanh Hoa provinces, according to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.
It is forecast that the typhoon will bring with it heavy downpours in the central region and Central Highlands with localities such as Quang Nam, Binh Dinh, Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang, Kon Tum, Gia Lai, and Phu Yen poised to endure a large amount of rainfall over the coming days.
The next 24 hours will likely see the typhoon move south-west at approximately 10 km per hour, with the weather event set to be located roughly 190 km east of Quang Ngai and Khanh Hoa provinces on November 5, with the strongest winds close to the eye of the storm reaching between 60-70 km per hour.
During the course of the subsequent 48 hours, the typhoon is forecast to weaken into a tropical depression before making landfall in localities from Quang Ngai to Khanh Hoa.
As a means of dealing with the impact of Typhoon Goni, Dang Van Minh, chairman of the Quang Ngai People's Committee, has asked relevant forces to evacuate local residents from areas that are susceptible to landslides and low-lying areas to safer places.
At present, the mountainous districts of Son Tay, Minh Long, and Son Ha have already made efforts to evacuate residents in areas at high risk of landslides, while the provinces of Phu Yen and Binh Dinh has also banned fishing vessels from going out to sea, calling on all ships to seek safe shelters.
The National Committee for Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue stated that the Ministry of Defense has mobilised more than 64,500 people and 1,718 specialised vehicles in order to rescue residents and cope with all possible scenarios.
