Two coronavirus hotspots to be kept in check in coming days

VOV.VN - Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam on January 31 urged the country’s two coronavirus hotspots of Hai Duong and Quang Ninh provinces to step up the fight against COVID-19 in an attempt to bring the fresh outbreak under control in six coming days.

“We have committed to keeping the fresh coronavirus outbreak here in check in just 10 days. There are six days left from now and I would like you to continue to uphold the combat spirit and meet the promise,” said Dam while making a fact-finding trip to Hai Duong’s Chi Linh City where the social distancing order was imposed several days ago.

The epidemic seems to show signs of waning in Hai Duong and Quang Ninh as new infections are falling in numbers these days. Notably, no new cases have been detected during the past 12 hours.

However, Dam noted that the new variant of the virus spreads very quickly, while local residents travel a lot during the coming lunar New Year holiday. He therefore requested Hai Duong to accelerate contact tracing to early detect and quarantine suspect cases.

He called on every local resident to strictly abide by COVID-19 prevention and control regulations in quarantined and blockaded venues, including at home. He warned that failing to fully observe such regulations could lead to terrible consequences.

The same evening, the Deputy PM travelled to Dong Trieu town of Quang Ninh province, to inspect the implementation of preventive measures there.

Vietnam has recorded a total of 238 locally transmitted cases since the virus recurred in Hai Duong and Quang Ninh on January 27, 2021. The new outbreak has spread to nine cities and provinces across the country.
