Two arrested for helping Japanese national illegally cross into Cambodia
VOV.VN - Two men have been arrested in the southern province of Tay Ninh for allegedly helping a Japanese national illegally cross the border from Vietnam into Cambodia, according to the Phuoc Chi Border Guard Station.
A patrol team from the Phuoc Chi Border Guard Station and other authorities spotted three men near border marker No. 174/1 in Phuoc Chi commune on August 17.
The men were allegedly attempting to cross into Cambodia illegally. One of them was a Japanese national, while the other two were Vietnamese.
During questioning, one of the Vietnamese men confessed that he had been hired to transport the other two across the border for VND4 million (about US$150).
The second Vietnamese man said he had previously known the Japanese national and agreed to take him to Cambodia for VND5 million. The Japanese man agreed to cover expenses incurred during the journey.
Authorities determined that the suspects showed signs of involvement in organising an illegal exit from Vietnam.
On August 24, the Phuoc Chi Border Guard Station issued a decision to initiate a criminal case for investigation and further legal action.
The case was subsequently handed over to the Tay Ninh Provincial Police for further investigation in accordance with its jurisdiction.
