Thua Thien Hue reports outbreak of African swine fever
VOV.VN - The first signs of an outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) have been detected in Phong Dien district in the central province of Thua Thien Hue, according to the provincial department for animal health.
The relevant agencies in Thua Thien Hue and Phong Dien, working in collaboration with the Zone III Animal Health, took samples from the pig farms for further testing. As the results of the samples were positive for the ASF virus, local authorities have requested they be culled along with all infected pigs in the area.
After the outbreak was first detected in Phong Dien district, local authorities requested veterinary workers spray disinfectant and lime powder in affected households and neighbouring areas to prevent the virus from spreading further.
Nguyen Van Hung, head of Thua Thien Hue province’s department of animal health, said veterinary workers have sprayed lime powder and done everything they can to disinfect all households and communes in the region. This is in addition to quarantine stations being set up to strictly monitor the transportation of pigs in and out of the locality.
Mr Hung noted that local authorities have provided 17 tons of chemicals as disinfectant for the region and have set up seven quarantine stations to prevent the further spread of the ASF virus.
