Three wartime bombs, artillery shell safely detonated in Lam Dong
VOV.VN - Three MK82 bombs and a 105mm artillery shell left over from the war were safely neutralized by the Regional Defence Command No. 2- Dong Gia Nghia in Vietnam’s Central Highland province of Lam Dong on June 5.
The Regional Defence Command No. 2- Dong Gia Nghia said local residents came across the unexploded ordnance while clearing farmland and excavating foundations for house construction and promptly reported the findings.
A technical inspection identified the devices as three MK82 bombs, each weighing about 230kg and containing approximately 44kg of explosives, along with a 105mm artillery shell. The bombs posed a significant safety risk if detonated.
Following the report, relevant forces secured the area and relocated the unexploded ordnance away from residential locations.
The bombs and shell were later transported to a training ground in Quang Phu Commune, where they were disposed of through a controlled detonation conducted in accordance with technical safety procedures.
The operation helped reduce safety risks for local residents and lower the likelihood of accidents involving wartime unexploded ordnance.
