Thailand, Portugal initiate digital cooperation

Thailand and Portugal have joined hands to initiate digital cooperation with special focus on cyber security, said Digital for Economy and Society Minister Pichet Durongkaveroj. 

He said he discussed with Portuguese Ambassador to Thailand Francisco Vaz Patto the plan to initiate the cooperation on digital and cyberspace in areas specialized by each side. 

The Ministry of Digital Society and Economy is seeking to enhance the cooperation on cyber security with Portugal, which will further enhance the government's establishment on the national cybersecurity center. 

The two countries will enhance the cooperation on Internet of Things, particularly to enhance the automobile business, the Smart City development where Thailand is aiming to pursue Phuket to become the first smart city as well as provinces in the Eastern Economic Corridor, and on E-Commerce. 

He added both Thailand and Portugal have their own advancements on digital government practices with respect to healthcare, education, and government procurement. 

He has also given examples of Portugal's effort to conserve traditional businesses such as shoe making and textile manufacturing by implementing digital technology to enhance competitiveness.
