Tay Ninh reburies 173 remains of fallen soldiers repatriated from Cambodia
VOV.VN - The remains of 173 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and military experts who lost their lives in Cambodia were laid to rest in Southern Vietnam on July 6 after being recovered during the second phase of the 2025–2026 dry-season search mission.
The memorial and burial ceremony, held at Vinh Hung Martyrs' Cemetery in Tay Ninh province by the provincial Steering Committee 515, was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc, along with leaders from ministries and agencies, Military Region 7, local authorities, armed forces personnel and residents.
According to the provincial Steering Committee 515, the latest recovery effort was carried out under the direction of the Government, the National Steering Committee 515 and Military Region 7, with close cooperation between Vietnamese search teams and the Cambodian Government, the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, and local authorities and people.
During nearly two months of operations in the second phase of the 2025–2026 dry season, Vietnam's specialised K Teams worked across former battlefields, verifying historical records, interviewing witnesses and investigating suspected burial sites despite difficult terrain and challenging conditions.
The teams recovered 173 sets of remains, bringing the total number of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and military experts repatriated during the entire 2025–2026 dry season to 511.
The latest recoveries form part of a decades-long humanitarian mission to bring home Vietnamese personnel who lost their lives during international duties in Cambodia.
Over 25 search missions, Tay Ninh province has recovered and repatriated 9,183 sets of remains, of which 282 have been successfully identified and returned to their families or hometowns.
In the memorial address, the provincial Steering Committee 515 said that every recovered set of remains represented "one more family relieved of decades of uncertainty" and "another chapter of history returning home."
The committee described the search, recovery and repatriation of fallen soldiers as not only a political responsibility but also a continuation of Vietnam's tradition of honouring those who sacrificed their lives for the nation, while helping educate younger generations about patriotism and gratitude.
