Storm Yagi appears in East Sea

VOV.VN - A storm with the international name of Yagi, the third one this year, has moved into the water to the east of Luzon Island of the Philippines, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting reported on September 2.

At 1 p.m., the centre of the storm was located at approximately 16.1 degrees North latitude and 122.5 degrees East longitude in the sea, east of Luzon Island of the Philippines. The strongest winds near its centre were at category eight of between 62 and 74 km/h, gusts at level 11, moving in a north-northwest direction at speeds of approximately 20 km/h.

Over the next 72 to 120 hours, the storm is likely to move to the west at speeds of between 10 to 15km per hour, with its intensity likely to increase further.

It is forecast that around the night of September 3, Storm YAGI will enter the East Sea. From the afternoon of September 3, the wind in the northeastern sea area of ​​the East Sea will gradually increase to level six, and even rising to category eight near the storm’s centre, with gusts over level 11 with rough seas.

From September 4 to September 6, Storm YAGI may reach strong levels in the northeast of the East Sea, with maximum wind strengths reaching level 12 and gusts at category 15 near the eye of the storm.

Moving forward to the next 24 hours, the sea area in the northeastern part of the East Sea will endure waves two to four metres high, increasing to between five to seven metres high from September 4 to September 6 as conditions in the sea become rough and dangerous for boats and ships.

The same day, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development issued Official Dispatch No. 475 on responding to the storm near the East Sea  to the People's Committees of coastal provinces and cities from Quang Ninh to Phu Yen; the ministries of National Defence, Public Security, Natural Resources and Environment, Transport, Industry and Trade, Information and Communications, Foreign Affairs; Vietnam News Agency, Vietnam Television, and Voice of Vietnam.
