Storm Damrey heads towards south central provinces

VOV.VN - A tropical depression has strengthened into a storm in the East Sea and is moving towards the south-central region of Vietnam on the morning of November 2, according to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

The storm, named Damrey, is the 12th storm that has hit the East Sea this year.

The centre said that at 7am on November 2, the eye of the storm was 380km east-northeast of Song Tu Tay Island with wind speeds of 60-75km per hour.

The storm is principally moving west at 20km per hour and is likely to get stronger. On the morning of November 3, the centre of the storm will be 400km east from the south-central provinces of Binh Dinh – Ninh Thuan with wind speeds expected to reach 75-100kph.

Due to the impact of the storm, the area in the middle of the East Sea, including north Truong Sa (Spratly) Archipelago will witness heavy rains, thunderstorms, and strong winds.

Storm Damrey is forecast to strengthen further packing winds of 90-115 kph and its eye will be located in the waters off Binh Dinh and Binh Thuan on November 4.
