Single-day infection tally hits nearly 167,000 nationwide

VOV.VN - The Ministry of Health confirmed a further 166,968 fresh COVID-19 cases on March 13, including 100.536 local infections, marking a fall of 1,751 cases from one day earlier.

Hanoi continued to record the highest number of infections with 29,269 cases, followed by Nghe An with 10,243 and Dak Lak with 7,569.

The infection tally now stands at more than 6.112 million, including 6.105 million domestic cases in the fourth wave of outbreaks that started on April 27 last year.

An additional 95 deaths were recorded in the past 24 hours, taking the total fatalities to 41,385, accounting for 0.7% of the total caseload.

A total 95,538 patients were declared free from the virus, taking the total number of recoveries to over 3.16 million.

By the end of March 12, more than 200 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine were administered nationwide.

Amid the continued sharp increase in fresh COVID-19 infections, health experts have recommend that every citizen properly implement 5K measures to prevent and control the pandemic to eliminate the subjective mentality of "everyone becomes F0", particularly as being cured of COVID-19 does not mean completely safety.

Evidence shows that many F0 cases continue to have persistent symptoms, even after negative test results, with some even having to return to hospitals for treatment. In fact, between 33% to 76% of patients may experience post-COVID-19 symptoms lasting at least six months, with 20% of patients being re-hospitalized, and 80% of patients must being monitored at a primary care facility within two months of discharge.

Those who do not follow the 5K regulations greatly increase their risk of infection. F0 cases are increasingly common and most are asymptomatic. In addition, as many asymptomatic F0 cases are still working and going out normally, this could be a source of virus transmission to many others, risking infecting the elderly, people with underlying medical conditions, and children, they said.

Facing the current situation, medical experts are worried that the number of COVID-19 cases will constantly increase and set new records. Therefore it is not possible to confirm exactly when the nation will reach the peak of the pandemic.
