Seven more earthquakes recorded in Kon Tum in single day
VOV.VN - The Central Highland province of Kon Tum on September 1 recorded seven earthquakes, with the biggest measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale, reported the Institute of Geophysics under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.
All the quakes occurred in Kon Plong district which has registered more than 200 quakes since April 2021.
A 2.7 magnitude quake first jolted the area at 09.13am followed by six other quakes measuring between 2.8 and 4.1 on the Richter scale.
No warnings about disaster risks had been issued, and the situation was being put under the microscope, said a statement by the Institute of Geophysics.
Earlier, a 4.7-magnitude earthquake shook Kon Plong district on August 23, with tremors clearly felt by people in neighbouring localities such as Da Nang city and Quang Nam province. Many other quakes also hit Kon Plong district afterwards.
The Prime Minister immediately requested that the Ministry of Science and Technology work closely with the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology to evaluate and clarify the causes and danger levels of earthquakes in the area and put forward suitable response solutions.
