Russia donates COVID-19 vaccine Sputnik V to Vietnam

VOV.VN - Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev began a two-day visit to Hanoi on March 16, bringing with him a batch of Russian-made Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine as donation to Vietnam.

The Russian Security Council said the batch of the vaccine has been transported to Vietnam as a special gift from President Vladimir Putin.  

Some 1,000 doses of the Sputnik vaccine arrived and were immediately transferred to the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology for preservation, an official of the Vietnamese Ministry of Health told local media outlets on March 16.

In late January 2021, Deputy Minister of Health Truong Quoc Cuong said Vietnam was negotiating with the United Kingdom, the United States, Russia and China to purchase coronavirus vaccines for the national immunization campaign.

Sputnik V has been licensed for use in more than 50 countries globally. according to the Lancet, one of the world’s leading medical journals, the vaccine is 91.6% effective against symptomatic COVID.
