RoK's KT Corp deploys telemedicine service in Vietnam

VOV.VN - KT Corporation, the Republic of Korea's largest telecommunications company, has unveiled a plan to co-operate with Hanoi Medical University to implement telemedicine service in Vietnam.

Under a signed agreement, KT Group and Hanoi Medical University outlined plans to jointly develop a telemedicine service that will both diagnose and monitor patients suffering from chronic diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure.

The telemedicine service will allow doctors to monitor patients' health status and provide advice relating to exercise, physical training activities, and medicine tailored to each patient’s individual needs.

A local subsidiary will be established by KT to operate the service this year. It will hire and train RoK doctors who are capable of providing telemedicine consultations for patients in Vietnam.

KT Group and Hanoi Medical University also agreed to jointly develop an artificial intelligence (AI) programme which can diagnose Alzheimer’s disease. The research will be based on work conducted by Professor Hwang Kyo-seon of the School of Medicine at Kyung Hee University.

Ko Hun-seok , project manager of KT’s digital and bio health business department, said Vietnam is the first country the group has chosen to launch the service. In fact, some of the services such as Jio Health, eDoctor, and Doctor Anywhere have been deployed in the country.

The Vietnamese market has seen increasing demand for medical services, he said, noting that KT will continue to expand services to other Southeast Asian countries.

The KT representative predicted that it would take about two to three years to successfully develop this service in Vietnam.
