Remains of 12 Vietnamese fallen soldiers repatriated from Cambodia

VOV.VN - Vietnam's Military Zone 9 on July 2 repatriated the remains of 12 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and military experts who died in Cambodia during international missions.

The handover ceremony was held in Kampong Chhnang province and attended by officials from both countries.

The Vietnamese delegation was led by Major General Huynh Van Ngon, deputy political commissar of Military Region 9 and head of its Steering Committee 515, while the Cambodian side included Lieutenant General Mum Sopheap, deputy commander of the Special Military Region, and Major General Um Sophea, commander of Kampong Chhnang Provincial Military Sub-region.

According to Military Region 9, Team K90, under its Political Department, recovered the 12 sets of remains during search and recovery operations carried out across Kampong Chhnang province in the 2025–2026 dry season.

Speaking at the ceremony, Major General Ngon highlighted that the results reflected the close cooperation, shared responsibility and longstanding friendship between Vietnam and Cambodia. He expressed appreciation to the Cambodian authorities, armed forces and local people for their continued support in providing information and facilitating search operations.

He also expressed hope that the authorities, armed forces and people of Kampong Chhnang province would continue providing information and support to help Team K90 carry out its mission in the coming years.
