Relapse cases allowed to self-isolate at home, not hospital

VOV.VN - Discharged patients who re-test positive for the virus will be allowed to self-quarantine at home as opposed to at healthcare facilities as previously, the Ministry of Health said in its latest COVID-19 regulations.

Relapse cases will be closely monitored at home over seven days, and they will be declared virus free if they test negative following a seven-day self-quarantine, according to the latest treatment regimen.

Prof. Nguyen Van Kinh, president of the Association for Infectious Diseases, said relatives of relapse cases won’t be forced to quarantine at specific venues and will only be given medical supervision at home.

If any relapse cases are brought to hospitals or healthcare stations, it could waste resources, time, and money, and simply represents an unnecessary precaution, noted Prof. Kinh.

Currently, the World Health Organization (WHO) hasn’t paid a great deal of attention to relapse cases.

Vietnam has recorded a total of 2,857 positive COVID-19 cases so far, including dozens of relapse cases. Some relapses are recognised 25 to 36 days after being discharged from hospital, whilst there has been no relapse cases confirmed to have spread the disease to others.
