Quang Binh hosts ASEAN Plus Youth Volunteer Forum

VOV.VN - The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Plus Youth Volunteer Forum and ASEAN Plus Youth Volunteer Award opened on August 24 in the central province of Quang Binh.

The four-day event was jointly organised by the National Committee for Youth in Vietnam (NCYV) and the Central Committee of Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCMYU) with the aim of bringing together 50 volunteers from ASEAN member states and Japan.

The occasion is designed to offer an opportunity for ASEAN Plus Youth to exchange ideas and experience in volunteerism, as well as offering a platform in which to introduce the culture and people of the nation, as well as the country’s socio-economic development to international friends.

Outstanding individuals and organisations from ASEAN plus countries were also honoured at the event.

Upon addressing the function, Nguyen Tuong Lam, secretary of the HCMYU and standing vice chairman of the NCYV, said the world has witnessed and experienced a range of unprecedented challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic over the past three years. In line with this, many volunteering activities and projects have been carried out throughout the region and globally as part of efforts to overcome these challenges.

He noted that a lot of community initiatives have been deployed by Vietnamese youth, with a major focus on activities relating to digital platforms.

Lam said he anticipates that a network of volunteer individuals and organisations in the region will be built after the event to help spread the spirit of volunteerism, whilst jointly contributing to the recovery and development of the region and the world as a whole.
