PM requests tight control of dengue fever as infection cases rise

VOV.VN - In the face of unpredictable and complex developments of the dengue fever eppidemic, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has issued a directive urging greater control of the epidemic and other infectious diseases.

The PM asked local administrations to closely monitor disease developments in order to step in for early detection and to comprehensively deal with outbreaks as soon as they are found.

He requested localities to organise emergency medical treatment for patients, strengthen inspection and supervision over areas with high risk, and allocate adequate funds for disease prevention and control.

It is imperative to deploy campaigns aimed at eradicating mosquitoes and mosquito larvae in residential areas, the PM said in his dispatch to localities.

The number of dengue fever cases has risen steadily over recent weeks across the country.

According to the Ministry of Health, Vietnam has so far recorded roughly 120,000 cases, including 40 deaths, up 30 times compared to the same period from last year.

It is currently the peak period for the spread of dengue fever, with the hot and humid weather coupled with regular rainfall providing the best conditions for mosquitoes and their larvae to develop. In addition, increased travel is also being blamed for the spike in cases, with people becoming even more negligent about preventive measures.

The Ministry of Health also attributed the rise in the number of dengue cases to the ineffective dissemination of information, as well as a general lack of chemicals and equipment for dengue fever prevention and control.

Furthermore, the Ministry underscored the importance of training medical workers for the early detection of severe dengue in order to offer timely treatment, a move which will help to lower the fatality rate.
