PM Chinh calls for greater efforts to curb COVID-19 pandemic soon

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh called on localities to gather the combined strength of the entire political system, people, and businesses for the fight against COVID-19 during a teleconference on August 29 with 20 provinces and cities nationwide.

“Having sacrificed economic activities to enforce social distancing measures, we must do our utmost to achieve the goal of bringing the pandemic under control as swiftly as possible,” the cabinet leader emphasized.

According to a report released at the meeting, despite the pandemic situation remaining complex in Ho Chi Minh City and its neighour Binh Duong province, outbreaks have gradually been contained in other southern provinces. The numbers of domestic infections in Long An and Tien Giang provinces are still high but there have been signs of abating.

Meanwhile the pandemic in Hanoi, Da Nang, Khanh Hoa, and Phu Yen are basically put under control as a result of stronger anti-pandemic measures, it said.

Amid the complicated and unpredictable COVID-19 pandemic in the region and the world, it is essential to get prepared for living with and adapting to the pandemic, while persisting with drastic measures to contain the pandemic in order to focus on carrying out socio-economic development tasks and ensuring safety of people’s health, the Government chief said.

Social distancing measures must be implemented properly, while testing and vaccination must be conducted in a scientific, effective, and comprehensive manner, Chinh emphasized.

He urged local authorities at all levels to ensure social security, especially for disadvantaged families, the homeless and vulnerable groups, during the social distancing period as well as people’s access to grassroots healthcare for the early detection and treatment of patients.

“The best vaccine is the one administered earliest,” he said, adding that the Government, sectors, and localities have been making every effort to get vaccines as early and many as possible.

The nation has so far registered a total of 2,623 imported and 432,642 domestic infections throughout the pandemic, while the number of recoveries increased to more than 219,000 and death toll stood at nearly 10,750.
