OVs in Russia support Vietnamese COVID-19 fight
VOV.VN - Members of the Overseas Vietnamese (OVs) in Russia raised more than VND3 billion in just two months following the launch of a project aimed at supporting the country’s ongoing battle against COVID-19.
This information was unveiled during a meeting held on August 30 to review a project to assist COVID-19 prevention and control efforts in the nation, with the event seeing the participation of representatives from the Embassy of Vietnam in Russia and the Overseas Vietnamese Association in Russia.
The proceeds from the function are expected to contribute to the "Tradition and Friendship" fund put together by the Overseas Vietnamese Association in Russia, with the primary aim of purchasing medical equipment or vaccines in order to help local people combat the pandemic.
Do Xuan Hoang, chairman of the Overseas Vietnamese Association in Russia, said two months on from launching, the project attracted more than VND3 billion from over 13,000 individuals, 13 businesses, and 26 organisations in Russia. This has come from various localities, such as Moscow, St.Petersburg, Krasnodar, Volgograd, the Primorsky region, Irkutsk province, the Republic of Bashkortostan, Vladimir province, Sverdlovsk province, the Republic of Buriatia, and Omsk Oblast.
Representatives from the Vietnamese Associations in Krasnodar, Ekaterinburg, St.Petersburg, and Irkutsk expressed their great appreciation for the launch of the initiative, adding hope that it will make a significant contribution to the country’s ongoing COVID-19 fight.
Hoang therefore pledged to use the proceeds for the correct purposes and will continue to raise funds in support of Vietnamese people at home in the near future.
