Over 22,400 Vietnamese students study in US

More than 22,440 Vietnamese youths studied in the US in the 2016-2017 academic year, a rise of 4.8 percent year-on-year, according to the US Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City.

Of the figure, there are 15,266 undergraduates and 3,503 postgraduates, accounting for 68 percent and 15.6 percent, respectively, of the total. Meanwhile, 1,650 Vietnamese students joined non-decree programmes in the US, or 7.4 percent.

The number of Vietnamese students in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the US has been on the rise, while that of non-decree courses has been declining.

Vietnam currently ranks six among countries and territories with the largest number of students in the US, equivalent to that of Taiwan. International students mostly enrol in courses of engineering, business administration, mathematics and computer science.
