Over 2,000 volunteers join national COVID-19 fight
VOV.VN - More than 2,000 local people have registered to work as volunteers to join the country’s ongoing fight against COVID-19 following an appeal issued by Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Truong Son.
Son on July 24 called on all doctors and nurses working in public and private healthcare clinics, as well as experts, retired health workers, pharmacists, lecturers, and students of medical schools to contribute to the country’s COVID-19 fight.
According to the Ministry of Health on July 26, up to 2,000 people registered to participate in volunteer activities aimed at combating the pandemic.
Among them are 1,900 volunteers who reside in Ho Chi Minh City, the largest coronavirus hotspot in Vietnam.
The HCM City Department of Health is planning to assign the volunteers to COVID-19 treatment facilities and some field hospitals to assist healthcare workers under serious work pressure there.
HCM City, the busiest and most populous city in Vietnam, has recorded nearly 70,000 locally transmitted COVID-19 cases since April 29. Thousands of new cases are logged every day and the number of cases is expected to rise in the coming days.
