Over 1,700 to be evacuated as unexploded wartime bomb found

VOV.VN - Local authorities of Vinh Phuc province, close to Hanoi capital, have developed a plan to evacuate approximately 1,700 people of a residential area after an unexploded wartime bomb was found.

The bomb, which is 40cm in diameter, 125cm in length and 340kg in weight, was uncovered on April 20 when construction workers dug the foundation of an old house on Ton Duc Thang street of Khai Quang ward, Vinh Yen city.

Hearing about the case, local bomb disposal experts were deployed to devise plans for moving and destroying the bomb.

All residents living within a radius of 500m from the site were required to move to other places for safety reasons.

All shops, supermarkets, schools and offices close to the site were ordered to be closed until further notice.

The bomb is scheduled to be lifted and destroyed on April 24.
