On National Day, we should remember the values that unite us
VOV.VN - On this day, we should all remember that when push comes to shove, Vietnamese stick together. It is a day set aside to commemorate the momentous decision by Ho Chi Minh to declare the nation’s independence.
Pictured is the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum located in Ba Dinh Square. We should not forget that 72 years ago, this is the same location where Uncle Ho read the Declaration of Independence, closing with a pledge of unity. |
As the poster above shows, Hanoians have not forgotten the words of Ho Chi Minh that still reverberate through the city streets today— Vietnam has the right to freedom, independence, and to be an independent country. |
Every year on this date, a flag ceremony is held at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum (pictured above), a signal it’s time once again for Vietnamese to come together and renew their pledge for unity. |
Many of the nation’s elders have not forgotten. One of the men pictured above says he exercises at the Mausoleum daily as a reminder of the call by Ho Chi Minh for patriotism, national pride and unity. |
Pictured is the flag ceremony on the morning of September 1, which will remain unfurling in the wind all day as a symbol of the mutual shared values and the common ground that binds all Vietnamese. |
The national flag (above) flying high above Ba Dinh Square today also severs as a guidepost, reminding all Vietnamese of the values that transcend social media, politics, culture and religious divisions and bind them together. |
The flag lined streets, posters, banners and flowers beautifully arranged on National Day in Hanoi today fill the city with an atmosphere of unity, patriotism and remembrance of all those who have given their lives for independence. |
Though we can never repay those who have given their lives for the country, we can all take time to honor their memory this National Day, as we honor the soldiers of today, such as those pictured above. |
