Northern regions set to welcome arrival of cold spell
VOV.VN - Localities throughout the north of the country are preparing to welcome the arrival of the first cold spell of the autumn period, with heavy rain and lower temperatures anticipated, according to the Central Hydro-meteorological Forecast Centre.
The centre also added that Hanoi and other northern mountainous provinces are set to experience periods of heavy rainfall over the course of the next two days.
Rain is therefore predicted to occur at night and in the early morning, with an average rainfall of between 50mm and 120mm per day, even rising to over 150mm in some places, raising the prospect of flashfloods and landslides occurring in mountainous localities.
Furthermore, residents of the capital have also been warned about the possibility of heavy rain causing tornadoes, lightning, and strong winds.
With the cold front expected to intensify moving into late September, temperatures in northern regions are expected to continue dropping.
Moreover, meteorologists have forecast that the upcoming winter will arrive earlier and be colder compared to previous years, with temperatures in Sa Pa already witnessing a sharp drop at the beginning of autumn.
