Noi Bai Airport begins to pilot facial recognition technology
VOV.VN - The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has approved the Noi Bai International Airport’s proposal to pilot check-in via facial recognition technology using identification (ID) cards carrying microchips for certain domestic flights.
The pilot programme will run for a month, starting from April 17.
Budget airline Bamboo Airways has confirmed that it will also join the trial scheme.
The pilot scheme will see passengers with chip-based ID cards make use of facial recognition technology at two check-in counters at the T2 terminal on the second floor.
The high-tech biometric authentication technology will help to reduce waiting times, increase accuracy, and allow authorities to better detect and prevent the use of fake documents by passengers. In addition, it will be able to identify those who are prohibited from flying or known criminals attempting to cross borders.
The CAAV requested that Noi Bai International Airport take measures to prevent congestion and handle situations that may arise during the trial period.
It also requested that the airport co-ordinate alongside relevant agencies and businesses in a bid to evaluate the effectiveness of the pilot application in terms of aviation security risks and passenger convenience.
