New cold spell to hit northern Vietnam, widespread rain forecast for central region

VOV.VN - A new surge of cold air advancing southward is set to bring another cold spell to northern Vietnam, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

Across the northern region, skies will be mostly cloudy, with no rain at night and localized early-morning fog in some places, followed by sunny conditions during the day. Overnight lows in high mountainous areas are forecast at 11-14°C.

In Hanoi, skies will be cloudy, with scattered light rain overnight and in the early morning, turning sunnier around midday and into the afternoon. Minimum temperatures will range from 18-20°C. Colder conditions are expected to set in from the night of December 3.

Over the next 12 to 36 hours, the cold air mass is forecast to affect the northeastern region, the North Central region, and parts of the northwestern region, before expanding to remaining areas of the northwest and parts of the Central Central region. Northeasterly winds will reach force 3, with coastal areas experiencing winds of force 4-5.

From the night of December 3, northern Vietnam and the North Central region will turn cold, with some mountainous areas of the north facing severe cold.

Minimum temperatures are expected to range from 15-18°C in northern and North Central areas, 13-15°C across mountainous regions, and below 11°C in high-altitude zones.

Due to the strengthening cold air combined with remnants of the low-pressure circulation from typhoon Yagi and upper-level easterly disturbances, moderate to heavy rainfall is forecast from the night of December 2 through December 5 in areas from Quang Tri to Da Nang, eastern parts of provinces from Quang Ngai to Dak Lak, and Khanh Hoa.

Residents and visitors are advised to carry umbrellas or rain gear as weather conditions may change suddenly. Heavy rainfall may cause flooding in low-lying areas, flash floods in small rivers and streams, and landslides. Residents are urged to closely monitor official forecasts and follow local guidance to minimize weather-related risks.
