Nearly 9,000 pigs culled in Son La due to African swine fever

VOV.VN - The northern province of Son La has been forced to cull nearly 9,000 pigs that have been infected with the African swine fever (ASF) until June 28 while  22 communes and towns in the locality declared free from the ASF epidemic.

The ASF epidemic has so far been detected in 243 hamlets, 86 communes, and wards of 12 districts and towns throughout Son La province.

In order to prevent the further spread of the ASF virus and minimise losses for breeders, Son La province has stepped up efforts to combat the epidemic.

The locality sent veterinary workers to instruct local residents on how to prevent and detect the early signs of the ASF, in addition to providing timely support to pig-farming households which have been forced to cull livestock.

Following concerted efforts, a total of 22 communes and towns in the locality have declared free from the ASF epidemic.

Moreover, Son La province will continue to direct its districts, towns, and relevant units to take drastic steps in order to stamp out the epidemic, disinfect breeding facilities, and support pig-farming households in a timely manner.
