Nearly 3,000 prison inmates to be granted parole ahead of National Day

VOV.VN - Nearly 3,000 prison inmates who have excelled in performances in detention camps across the country will be granted parole ahead of Vietnam’s National Day (September 2), according to the Central Advisory Council on Amnesty.

The council approved the list of the inmates eligible for parole on the occasion of National Day 2022 at a review meeting on August 23.

Eligible inmates include those who are serving a definite prison sentence, prisoners who have life imprisonment commuted, and prisoners who are temporarily suspended from serving prison sentences.

At the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh asked localities to pay due attention to offering vocational training, job creation and loans to help the returnees reintegrate into the community without discrimination.

The list of the prison inmates will be submitted to the President for consideration and approval.

Vietnam adopted the Law on Amnesty in 2009 and it had granted parole to nearly 90,000 prison inmates between 2009 and 2016.
