This year's contest received 893 entries in 17 languages, up 21% in number of entries and six languages more compared to the event in 2015.

The entries’ formats include: print and online newspaper, radio broadcasting, television broadcasting, landscape photos and books.

Authors include Vietnamese and foreign journalists, experts, researchers, photographers, publishers, and Vietnamese expatriates.

Their topics cover all aspects of the country’s political, economic, cultural and social life, promoting the image of Vietnam to the outside world. The entries inform of the Vietnamese Party guidelines and State policies, the great achievements Vietnam made in the “Doi moi” (Reform) process, Vietnam’s viewpoint on regional and international issues, and objection to the incorrect and distorted allegations on Vietnam.

In his speech at the award ceremony, Vo Van Thuong, Head of the Party Central Committee’s Communication and Education Commission and the Central Steering Committee for External Information Service, highlighted the important role of the external information service.

“Efforts should be made to improve the service's operation to fulfill its tasks entrusted by the Party and State, contributing to maintaining peace, and stability, and promoting international integration for national development. The service needs to be renovated in terms of contents and formats”.

The National External Information Service Awards was launched in 2014.

Of VOV’s total 10 award winners, “Story of Vietnam’s international integration” by the Voice of Vietnam World Service (VOV5) won the first prize.
