Localities nationwide launch activities in response to World Environment Day

VOV.VN - In response to World Environment Day (June 5), World Oceans Day (June 8), the Month of Action for the Environment and Vietnam Sea and Islands Week 2026, localities across Vietnam have launched environmental protection activities, including waste collection, tree planting and public awareness campaigns.

In eastern Lam Dong province, many communes and simultaneously launched activities under the campaign “All People Join Hands to Protect the Environment for a Green, Clean and Beautiful Vietnam”.

In Phan Thiet Ward, youth union members, representatives of mass organisations and local residents took part in a programme that exchanged plastic waste for environmentally friendly cloth bags, encouraging the reduction of single-use plastic products. Meanwhile, hundreds of residents in Mui Ne Ward joined clean-up efforts at the local fishing village and along roads in the area, helping improve the living environment and local landscape.

In the Mui Ne coastal area, coastal service businesses have been encouraged to reduce the use of single-use plastic products, strengthen waste sorting at source and coordinate with local authorities in organising regular beach-cleaning activities.

In Can Tho, the municipal People's Committee, in coordination with the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the city, initiated a campaign encouraging public participation in environmental protection.

Tran Chi Hung, Vice Chairman of the municipal People's Committee, called on government agencies, businesses and residents to work together to build a greener, cleaner and more civilised city.

City leaders called on departments, agencies and localities to intensify the implementation of environmental protection policies, improve the efficiency of waste sorting, collection and treatment, reduce plastic waste, promote the circular economy, protect rivers and canals, and expand the application of science, technology and digital transformation in natural resources and environmental management.

In Tay Ninh, a ceremony was held to launch activities in response to World Environment Day and the Month of Action for the Environment 2026 under the theme “A Global Call for Climate Action”.

Nguyen Hong Thanh, Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee, highlighted the increasingly visible impacts of climate change and extreme weather on production, livelihoods and sustainable development.

According to the provincial plan, a range of activities will be carried out through the end of June 2026, including tree planting, environmental clean-up campaigns, waste collection, plastic waste reduction programmes, recycling-for-gifts initiatives and communications activities on nature conservation and biodiversity.

In Dak Lak, the provincial People's Committee launched the “Clean the Sea” campaign and a series of activities under the programme “Joining Hands to Clean the Environment”.

Provincial leaders called on authorities at all levels, organisations and residents to work together to eliminate unregulated dumping sites, strengthen inspection and supervision, and encourage recycling models and energy-saving initiatives to protect the environment and marine ecosystems.

Immediately after the launch ceremony, officials, soldiers, pupils, students and local residents joined waste collection activities at Long Thuy Beach.

In Lao Cai, hundreds of residents, together with representatives of departments, agencies and local authorities, took part in environmental clean-up and waste collection activities following a launch ceremony marking World Environment Day and the Month of Action for the Environment 2026.

The province is also implementing measures to strengthen the control, classification, collection and treatment of household solid waste; promote recycling and energy efficiency; and encourage community initiatives on plastic waste reduction, ecosystem restoration and climate change adaptation.
