Local students win gold medals at Int'l Mathematics and Science Olympiad
VOV.VN - Vietnamese students claimed two gold medals during the 17th International Mathematics and Science Olympiad (IMSO) 2021 which concluded virtually in Indonesia on January 24.
The two gold medals went to Nguyen Tung Lam of Giang Vo secondary school and Ha Manh Hung of Hanoi-Amsterdam high school for the gifted, both of whom are in the sixth grade.
In addition to the gold medals, the local students also picked up five silver medals and four bronze medals in mathematics.
Furthermore, in the science Olympiad the Vietnamese duo also won five silver and four bronze medals.
Indonesia played host to the 17th IMSO 2021 from January 21 to 24, with the competition featuring the participation of contestants from 15 countries worldwide. However, due to the global impact of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic the event had to be held virtually.
Giang Vo secondary school located in Ba Dinh district of Hanoi provides a place for Vietnamese contestants to enter the international competition.
The IMSO for students under the age of 13 initially took place in 2003 and has since developed into a prestigious playground for both students and teachers.
Vietnam hosted the 16th IMSO in 2019, with local students obtaining seven gold, seven silver, and four bronze medals in the mathematics, in addition to eight gold, seven silver, and three bronze medals in science.
