JICA chief representative hails 75-year development path of VOV

VOV.VN - Shimizu Akira, chief representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)’s Vietnam Office, has offered congratulations and expressed great appreciation for Voice of Vietnam (VOV)'s development over the past 75 years, adding that he is hopeful of JICA and VOV strengthening co-operation in the future.

These comments were made as Ngo Minh Hien, VOV Vice President, hosted a reception on October 14 for Akira at VOV’s headquarters in Hanoi, during which the VOV leader briefed the JICA official and his delegation on fresh developments of the national broadcaster. Indeed, VOV has become one of the leading media agencies nationwide with programmes running across four forms of media, including radio, television, print, and online newspapers, in addition to eight radio channels, broadcasts in 13 languages, including Japanese, and many other cross-platform applications.

Furthermore, VOV now operates 13 overseas bureaus, including one based in Japan, Hien noted, adding that VOV is highly appreciative of its relationship with numerous Japanese media agencies, including NHK.

In response, Akira emphasised, “Communications on new projects are extremely important activities for JICA. Therefore, co-operation with VOV to carry out media programmes featuring JICA projects is something to pay attention to.”

According to Akira, JICA not only sponsors major projects nationwide such as the Metro Line 1 train, but also small-scale projects in localities, including those that support ethnic minorities to improve their livelihoods, whilst also combating human trafficking. Through co-operation with VOV, JICA hopes increasing numbers of people will know about these projects, he stated.

Moreover, JICA also primarily focuses on implementing ODA projects as a means of helping step up co-operation and people-to-people exchanges between Vietnam and Japan, he said. Indeed, JICA is keen on receiving support from the media to introduce projects, whilst also sharing its implementation experience, the JICA official noted.

The vice president of VOV also emphasized that the Vietnamese media outlet is not only interested in JICA's major supporting projects for the nation, but also their community-based support projects. The national broadcaster is therefore willing to serve as a bridge in order to share information about these projects with the public.

With regard to the upcoming visit of new Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, Hien said that the trip is an indication that Japan considers the country to be a leading important partner in Southeast Asia.

By choosing Vietnam and Indonesia as the first two destinations on his Southeast Asia tour, PM Suga is demonstrating the extremely important role of Vietnam in ASEAN in particular, in addition to Asia as a whole.

As the nation’s leading official media agency, recent times has seen VOV boost its coverage of mutual relations with Japan, especially with the bilateral relationship being upgraded to an extensive strategic partnership.

VOV therefore hopes the visit of the new Japanese PM will help to further tighten co-operation between both sides, as well as between the citizens of the two countries, thereby making development steps with the two nations' media agencies, Hien added.
