Internet radio is needed
(VOV) - Simon Kendall, head of business development, BBC Global News, has suggested with its advantages, Internet radio services be developed to better cater to the audience’s diverse taste.
Radio listeners obviously consume content, but they also want pictures and easy access to audio online programmes via apps, Kendall said at a panel discussion on July 30 as part of the ongoing RadioAsia conference in Hanoi.

In his view, service quality is a decisive factor in increasing audience share for any broadcasters in the context of a rapidly changing media, technically and commercially.
Kendall pointed out the fact that fewer young audiences listen to radio in a traditional way than they did several years ago. He quoted a recent survey saying about 80% of BBC listeners now have smartphones or similar devices, requiring broadcasters to provide value added services such as audios or visuals.
With young people making up the majority of the population, maintaining a high percentage of young audience is essential for the survival of radio.
Therefore, Kendall suggested radio broadcasters update technologies and diversify services to attract the audience.
