International workshop aims to enhance role of women in promoting peace
VOV.VN - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the UN are set to jointly host an international workshop for the purpose of strengthening the role of women in building and promoting peace, with the event taking place through in-person and online formats from December 7 to December 9.
As part of the workshop an event will be taking place in Hanoi, with National Assembly (NA) Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh set to address participants.
A total of five plenary sessions and four workshops are due to be held in the framework of the event, which will review the implementation of Resolution 1325 of the UN Security Council (UNSC) over the last 20 years. This is in addition to noting the difficulties and challenges facing the task, whilst also proposing orientations for policy and action co-ordination of the international community moving forward.
Furthermore, the occasion will also include exhibitions featuring Vietnam’s efforts and achievements, as well as international assistance provided for the country in terms of overcoming the consequences of bombs and mines left over from previous conflicts. Other aspects of the function will involve a promotion of the nation's policy on ensuring gender equality, along with the participation and contribution of women for the causes of national defence and construction.
The workshop is anticipated to attract between 150 and 200 international delegates, including senior officials from the UN and member countries, outstanding women who promote peace, security, and gender equality, along with scholars. They will be joined by those from UN organisations operating within the nation, financial institutes, and non-governmental organisations.
Moreover, representatives from various ministries, the Government Office, Party Committees, and agencies of the NA, as well as friendship organisations, will be representing the country at the event.
