Infection count continues to drop by over 1,000 cases in a single day

VOV.VN - An additional 2,269 new COVID-19 infections were confirmed by the Ministry of Health on May 8, bringing the country’s total caseload to 10,676,184.

The localities where the number of infections saw a sharp fall compared to the previous day, include Hanoi down 292, Vinh Phuc (-144), and Bac Ninh (-61).

Of the day's tally, 1,529 cases were detected in the community.

The COVID-19 death toll has witnessed a constant decline in recent times, with only one case confirmed over the past 24 hours, raising the overall number of fatalities to 43,056.

The total number of recovered cases rose to 9,320,591 following the Health Ministry’s confirmation of 2,066 recoveries on the same day.

As of May 7, a total of 149,311 doses of COVID-19 vaccines had been vaccinated nationwide, taking the total number of vaccine doses administered to 215,688,790.

The Ministry of Health has asked provincial and municipal health departments across the country to continue closely following the pandemic situation, especially the possible appearance of new variants, and keep in touch with the World Health Organization (WHO) to update timely and accurate information about new strains.
