Hungarian tourist saved from acute myocardial infarction after timely intervention

Foldi traveled to Hanoi with his wife. While staying in the Vietnamese capital, he developed a high fever, profuse sweating, and chills, prompting him to visit Hong Ngoc General Hospital’s Yen Ninh facility for medical examination. During the assessment, he also reported chest pain.

His medical history revealed long-standing hypertension, diabetes, and dyslipidemia, all of which are major risk factors for cardiovascular disease. According to Dr. Nguyen Dinh Cong, MSc, Deputy Head of the Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology Department at the hospital, this was a high-risk case of acute myocardial infarction.

“Without timely intervention, the patient could have faced multiple serious, potentially life-threatening complications,” he said.

Initially, Foldi planned to return to Hungary for treatment. However, after the medical team explained in detail the severity of his condition and the benefits of early intervention, he decided to receive treatment at the hospital.

“I had thought about returning to Hungary, but the doctors helped me understand that this was a medical emergency that could not be delayed. Their professionalism, dedication, and clear consultation made me fully trust my decision to receive treatment here,” he shared.

Due to the complexity of the coronary lesions, the cardiology team selected a hybrid intervention strategy, combining stent placement with drug-coated balloon angioplasty to restore blood flow to the heart while optimizing long-term treatment outcomes.

The intervention was performed successfully, with blood flow to the heart effectively restored. After only two days, the patient’s condition stabilized, and he was eligible for discharge.

“My health is now stable,” Foldi said before leaving the hospital. “Throughout my treatment here, everything was excellent because every procedure was carried out quickly and efficiently. The doctors, nurses, and medical staff were very dedicated, professional, and friendly. If I had to give a score, I would give more than 100 points.”
