Heavy downpours continue, three killed in Thai Nguyen landslide

VOV.VN - Heavy rain that lasted from May 30 evening to May 31 morning triggered a landslide in Nam Hoa commune of Dong Hy district (Thai Nguyen province), killing three local people.

The authorities of Nam Hoa commune mobilized three excavators and forces to support search and rescue work. By 5am, rescue workers retrieved the three bodies from rubble and handed them over to their relatives for memorial services.

Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds and lightning also caused human losses in other northern provinces. Two girls were fatally struck by lightning in Dien Bien province on May 30.

In the neighbouring province of Cao Bang, a local was killed by lightning and another was fatally buried in a landslide.

Pouring rain and severe flooding last week also left three dead in Tuyen Quang and Hoa Binh provinces.

Nguyen Huu Thanh, deputy head of the Weather Forecasting Department under the National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting, warned torrential rain accompanied by strong winds would continue in the northern localities.

Local people need to be careful about landslides to avoid human and property loses, said Thanh.
