Heatwave bakes Central Vietnam as National Day holiday gets underway
VOV.VN - Central Vietnam is facing intense heat as Vietnam’s National Day holiday period begins, with temperatures exceeding 40°C in some places, while the heat is forecast to ease from August 31 as rain returns to northern parts of the region.
On August 29, hot weather affected areas from Hue to Da Nang, eastern parts of Quang Ngai, Dak Lak and Khanh Hoa provinces, with temperatures generally ranging from 35°C to 37°C and above 38°C in some places.
Notably, Cam Ranh in Khanh Hoa recorded 40.2°C, while temperatures reached 38.2°C in Da Nang and 38.1°C in Quang Ngai.
On August 30, these areas are expected to remain hot, with maximum temperatures generally at 35°C-36°C and above 37°C in some places, accompanied by relatively low humidity of 50-55%.
The National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting warned that prolonged exposure to the heat could increase the risk of dehydration, exhaustion and heatstroke.
The positive news is that the widespread heat in Central Vietnam is forecast to ease from August 31.
From Thanh Hoa to Quang Tri, moderate to heavy rain is possible from August 31 to September 1, with very heavy rain in some places. Rain is expected to decrease from September 2.
Da Nang, however, is expected to stay hot through August 30-31, before scattered showers and thunderstorms become possible on September 1-2.
In Nha Trang, sunny weather is expected to be dominant during the holiday, with temperatures of around 32°C-35°C.
For people planning trips to Central Vietnam, August 30 is a day to take particular care with the heat in Da Nang and parts of south-central Vietnam, while weather risks gradually shift toward rain and thunderstorms in northern parts of the region from August 31.
Northern Vietnam sees more mixed holiday weather
Meanwhile, Northern Vietnam is expected to see more variable weather during the early days of September.
From the night of August 30 into August 31, showers and thunderstorms are forecast across the region, with moderate to heavy rain and isolated areas of very heavy rain.
From September 1-2, rainfall is expected to decrease, with sunshine during the day and scattered showers and thunderstorms possible in the afternoon and evening. Temperatures are forecast at around 31C-34°C, with some places above 34°C.
The capital city of Hanoi is also forecast to experience rain and thunderstorms at night from August 30-31, while daytime temperatures hover around the low to mid-30s.
Southern Vietnam remains in rainy-season pattern
In Southern Vietnam, the holiday weather will continue to reflect the region’s rainy-season pattern.
Days are expected to be sunny, while showers and thunderstorms are likely in many places in the afternoon and evening, with heavy rain possible in some areas.
Temperatures are forecast to reach around 31°C-34°C, while mornings and nights are expected to be more comfortable.
Weather conditions during this year’s National Day holiday will therefore vary significantly across Vietnam, with intense heat lingering in parts of Central Vietnam, more unsettled conditions in the north and frequent afternoon and evening thunderstorms in the south.
For travelers, the main difference is timing: Central Vietnam’s heat is expected to ease in northern areas from August 31, while rain and thunderstorms become the main weather concern in several other parts of the country.
